Transit is bought on ports, commits and routing posture

A colocation tenant, a hosting provider and a SaaS operator are not buying "internet" in the sense an office is. They are buying a port at a stated tier, a committed rate with defined burst behavior, a routing relationship that lets them announce space or accept a default, and enough path diversity that one fiber cut is an event rather than an outage.

Handoffs are scoped at 10G, 40G, 100G or 400G — service tiers we scope with the provider, never equipment we operate. The port is only half of it: the optics on both ends, the cross-connect from the meet-me room to your cabinet, who orders that cross-connect and who pays the facility for it are all part of a complete quote.

What we'll ask at quote

Facility connectivity is quoted against a specific footprint, so these are the details that turn a range into a number. Most of them are already in your colocation paperwork.

  • The facility and your footprint inside it — campus, building, suite, cage or cabinet, because the cross-connect is quoted from the meet-me room to that exact place
  • Whether the cross-connect is yours to order or ours to coordinate, and who holds the facility relationship
  • The port tier you are sizing for, the media and connector type expected, and whether a link aggregation group is in scope
  • Your sustained and peak traffic profile, and the direction it runs — outbound-heavy hosting scopes differently from balanced enterprise traffic
  • Whether you want a flat rate or a committed rate with burst, and what commit level your own numbers support
  • Your routing posture: an existing ASN and prefixes, provider-assigned space, a first allocation in progress, or a default route
  • IPv4 and IPv6 requirements, including how much address space the deployment actually needs
  • Whether this is a single circuit or one of two, and what diversity you need proven — separate entrance, separate path, separate provider

Why facility transit is not just a bigger office circuit

An office circuit is sold as one product with one number. Transit is sold as a bundle of decisions, and the reason matters: what you are actually buying is a provider's willingness to carry your traffic to and from the rest of the internet, and providers differ in how they do that. Route quality, how many networks they reach directly rather than through someone else, how congested their own edges get at peak, and what they do when a path fails are all real differences that a per-megabit comparison flattens into nothing. We put the relevant terms and the product differences beside each other so a comparison is a comparison.

Multi-homing is the other decision buyers postpone and then regret. A single transit provider is a single point of failure that no amount of redundant hardware inside your cage compensates for, and the moment to arrange the second one is while you still have the leverage of an unsigned first contract. It also changes your routing requirements — announcing your own space across two providers is a different posture from accepting a default from one, and it is worth scoping deliberately rather than retrofitting under pressure.

What we do not do is pretend to be something we are not. We do not operate a network, we have no ports of our own to sell you, and there is nothing to peer with. What we bring is the scoping above, sourcing the same requirement from more than one provider into a comparable set of options, coordinating the cross-connect and turn-up with the facility, and staying reachable afterwards. If the honest answer for your footprint is that your existing provider is already competitive, you will get that answer too.

How do you deliver transit — do you operate a network, and can we peer with you?

No to both, and we would rather say so plainly than let the question sit. Circuits are provisioned through our carrier network relationships and quoted per location; equipment is sourced through our distribution network. Naming a service type describes what we quote, not a partnership with any provider. There is no Uniqcli network, no AS of ours to peer with and no port we own. What we bring is scoping the requirement properly, sourcing it from several providers into options you can actually compare, coordinating the cross-connect and turn-up with the facility, and one accountable relationship afterwards. Assess, design, procure, support: we scope the requirement with you, design against it, source the circuits and equipment, and stay the single point of contact through turn-up and afterwards.

Which port speeds can you scope?

Handoffs from 10G through 40G, 100G and 400G, with the caveat that what is deliverable is set by the facility and the providers present in it rather than by a menu. Some buildings have a deep carrier list and some have two; a 400G port in a facility where nobody has that gear on the floor is a build conversation, not an order. We check what is genuinely available in your specific facility and tell you where the tier you asked for is not realistic there.

How fast can you get a quote back?

How quickly a quote comes back depends on how many addresses have to be checked and which carriers serve them; a single site is usually straightforward, and a multi-site scope moves at the pace of the slowest address. We tell you where each location stands rather than holding the whole quote for the last one.

Can you help with BGP, our own ASN and IP space?

We help you scope it and we specify it correctly on the order — which provider products support the posture you want, what address space the deployment needs, whether IPv6 is in scope from day one, and what the provider requires from you at turn-up. The routing policy, the announcements and the network itself stay yours to operate. If you are working toward your own allocation, that timing is worth naming early because it changes what the first contract should look like.

How do commit and burst work, and what will we actually be billed?

The mechanics belong to the provider and they differ by product, so we put the actual terms in front of you rather than describing a generic model. What we do is make sure the commit is set against your own traffic instead of a guess, that you know how usage above it is measured and over what interval, and that two quotes are compared on the same basis. Service commitments are backed by the underlying carrier's published service terms, which are provided with your quote rather than summarized here.

Is my facility serviceable, and by whom?

Coverage is nationwide and confirmed per location at quote — what is deliverable to a specific address depends on which carriers reach that building, so we check it per site rather than publishing a map. For a colocation facility that also means checking which providers are physically present on the floor and which are only reachable through someone else, because the second case affects both the cost and the diversity story. Send the facility and your footprint and you get an answer for that building.
