How much memory does a business laptop need?

16 GB is the working floor for a modern Windows 11 seat — a browser with a lot of tabs, an Office stack, a security agent and a collaboration client will use it. Step to 32 GB for engineering, analyst, developer and design roles, or anything that runs virtual machines or large datasets. 8 GB still ships and still works for a light, single-application seat, but it will feel its age first. Can I add memory to one of these later?

Often not, and it is worth checking before you buy rather than after. A large share of current thin-and-light notebooks solder their memory to the board, which makes the specification permanent, and some newer machines use compression-attached CAMM2 modules rather than the SO-DIMM slots that used to be standard. The manufacturer's service manual or specification sheet is the reliable answer for a given model. Where a machine is not upgradeable, the safer route is to specify the memory you want at purchase.

What is the difference between an SSD and eMMC flash?

An SSD is a separate drive on a fast interface, and it is what business notebooks and workstations ship with. eMMC is flash storage soldered to the board, used in Chromebooks and entry-level netbooks; it is typically 32 GB to 128 GB, noticeably slower, and not replaceable. Neither is wrong — a Chromebook that stores almost everything in the cloud does not need a terabyte — but they are not substitutes, so the drive-type filter keeps them apart.

What does the screen size filter cover?

Each option is a band rather than an exact measurement, because manufacturers publish sizes like 13.3", 14.5" and 15.6" and a buyer is choosing a class of machine, not a decimal. The 14" option returns everything from 14" to 14.9", the 15" option covers 15" to 15.9", and so on; the smallest option is everything at 13.9" and under, and the largest is everything from 17" up. What does 'Refurbished' mean on this page?

It means the product listing itself declares the unit as refurbished — the label is read from the manufacturer's or reseller's own title, never assigned by us, and anything that does not declare it is shown as new. Refurbished units are typically enterprise machines returned from lease or deployment and reconditioned for resale, which is why a refurbished configuration often costs substantially less than the equivalent new one. Warranty terms, cosmetic grade and included accessories vary by listing, so ask with your quote or before checkout if any of those are decisive for you.

Can I buy a single laptop for myself, or is this trade only?

Either. Most single machines go through the normal checkout, the same as any other order on the site — a purchase order is not required to buy one laptop. Larger quantities, and the small number of high-value mobile workstations on this page, are handled as a quote instead: that is where we confirm stock across the whole order, hold a price and put one total in front of an approver. An order that needs to take that route is passed to a sales rep for confirmation rather than refused.

Are these laptops TAA compliant?
