  • Measure the throw distance first. A standard projector needs several meters of clear ceiling run; a short-throw model sits close to the screen; an ultra-short-throw model mounts on the wall just above it and effectively eliminates the shadow a teacher casts when they point at the board.
  • Buy lumens for the room's real ambient light, not for the datasheet. A room with uncovered south-facing windows needs materially more light output than a dim lecture theater, and the fastest way to make a projector look like a failed purchase is to under-spec brightness in a bright room.

Throw distance decides the room
